Angela Davis

My friend Jay sent me a text a couple of days ago.  It was a forwarded text from a University of Melbourne student announcing that Angela Davis was speaking on campus.  To say the least I was excited.  I had never seen her speak in person.  I got to the Sidney Myer Asia Centre about a hour and a half early.  And I wasn’t the first person there.

Costume Party

Ummmm…my first house and hybrid-costume party in Melbourne was fun.  Australians party late and flashing red and blue lights only scare the American guys at the party.

A Social Evening Part II: Fitzroy Social

After checking out to my friend Corey’s art show at The Social Studio, we stopped by a new restaurant in Fitzroy called Fitzroy Social.  It was a SOCIAL evening.  Ha.  This place used to be a dive bar of sorts.  I never went, but I recall walking by it when I first moved to Melbourne.  If memory serves me correctly, it had a small roller skating ring.  Why I never went inside, I’ll never know.  But the new place is promising.  OG and myself got there at the tail end of the soft opening, but still had a good time.

A Social Evening Part I: The Social Studio

My friend Corey had an art show with his friend Wanda.  The location, The Social Studio in Collingwood.  His medium, paint on canvas.  Hers, photography.  It was a good show and a lot of people showed up.   In addition, there were spoken word performances and a couple of local musicians.

BLM Melbourne

Black Lives Mater Melbourne organized a demonstration that started at State Library Victoria the day after my birthday.  The procession ended at Flinders Station.  The turnout was much larger than I had expected and there were a substantial amount of young people there.

Sincerely Me

I attended a friend’s book signing yesterday.  It is a book of poetry entitled, “Sincerely Me”.  It contains poems written by Abdul Raoof Hamidullah and Lawrence Nicol.  I have known Abdul since college and we both have come along way.  So many good stories could be inserted here, but I will refrain.  It felt good being able to be there for it.
